Stipends

 

The Institute offers a Student Maintenance Grant in the form of a stipend. The grant is available to full-time students who meet the eligibility criteria and who are not in full-time employment during the scholastic period.

 

  • The first stipend will be paid in the beginning of December 2020. Thereafter stipends will be paid every four weeks in arrears.
  • Students are also entitled for a pro-rata COLA of the respective year starting with the stipend payment of February.
  • Students receiving a stipend are also entitled to receive prorate of the annual Government statutory bonus and must pay their National Insurance contributions.
  • Eligible students will also be paid a grant of €333 per scholastic year paid in the beginning of December 2020.
  • Students attending ITS just to repeat particular module in which they failed will be eligible for stipend on a pro-rata basis.
  • Students who have applied and were accepted to benefit from this scheme in previous year/s should always apply again at the beginning of each academic year and all documentation must be attached to the application form.

€225.52 every 4 weeks

MQF Level 6

Bachelor’s degree second year and third year

€240.69 every 4 weeks

 

Stipend Eligibility Criteria

 The main criteria for stipend eligibility are the following:

 Maltese students must meet all of the following criteria

  • Maltese citizens, or students with at least one parent being a Maltese Citizen
  • have resided in Malta for a period of not less than five years from the commencement of the course of study
  •  have completed their term of compulsory education
  • are attending a full-time day course

 Overseas students must meet all of the following criteria:

  • are Maltese citizens, or students with at least one parent being a Maltese citizen or are nationals of the EU/ EEA nationality
  • And have resided in Malta for a period of not less than five years from the commencement of the course of studies
  •  have completed their term of compulsory education
  •  are attending a full-time day course
  •  must have a residence permit

 

How to apply for a stipend

You will be required to fill in an online Stipends Form which will be sent by the Finance Department at the beginning of the scholastic year. This form once completed will be submitted to the Finance Department.

Important note:

Stipends are paid through a bank transfer and thus each student must have access to a bank account. It is important to know the bank account’s IBAN number.

 

 

 Supplementary Maintenance Grant

 

All students who apply and are accepted under this scheme will receive an extra 85% of their stipend.

 

Students are only eligible to apply if they are currently receiving a stipend and have particular financial difficulties. Students who have applied and were accepted to benefit from this scheme in previous year/s should always apply again at the beginning of each academic year and all documentation must be attached to the application form.

 

The Supplementary Maintenance Grant application will only be accepted at the Finance Office by the 2nd of November 2020. Late applications will not be accepted.

 

Students must present documents to support their claim. The documents needed are listed on the same application form.

 

Kindly note that:

Decisions regarding applications under the Supplementary Maintenance Grant Scheme are not taken by the staff of the Stipends’ Office at the Institute of Tourism Studies. Such decisions are taken by the Students Maintenance Grant Board.

The SMG Board will not approve applications where the yearly household income exceeds the following rates:

Family Rate: € 12,700

Single Rate: € 9,100

Single Parent Rate: € 10,500

 

Once the applications have been reviewed by the SMG Board, each student will be informed of the Board’s decision via an official letter or an e-mail.
