Home > Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

The Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) provides you with access to a range of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities and services, both on and off-campus, targeted at enhancing and expanding your student experience. All ICT facilities on and off-campus are provided to you in order to aid proactively with your learning and your student experience at ITS, through the efficient and effective use of information and communication technologies.

Central to all these is your ITS Account which comprises your ITS email address and grants you access to our ITS Office 365 portal and the ITS Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Moreover, through your ITS Account you gain licenses for the Microsoft Office Software which you can install on all your devices (i.e laptop, mobile, tablet). You will also require your ITS Account to access some devices across campus such as the computers in the Resource Room and the IT Labs.

The IT Department creates your account once your application has been accepted and sends you information directly to your (personal) mailbox. There you will receive step-by-step instructions on how to activate your account and set up all your accesses.

Your ITS email account is the primary communication channel used by the Institute to communicate with you and deliver to you important information, such as your timetables. It is therefore important that you activate your account as soon as you receive the information.

The use of your ITS account, email and all ITS ICT facilities and services is governed by a set of policies that you should make yourself familiar with, amongst them the Acceptable Use of ICT Resources Policy. These can be found on the ITS website and include procedures and guidelines related to specific ICT-related hardware, software and applications.

Student Card

As an ITS Student you are provided with an official ITS Student Card. This card must be with you at all times while you are on campus. All IT Services & requests from the IT Department (from password resets to request for installations and so on) require you to present your official student card. The IT Department will not be able to help you unless you present your official student card.

Wi-Fi Access

The ITS Campus has full wi-fi coverage, in all classrooms, all buildings and all recreational areas. ITS Students have access to their own wi-fi network.

Wifi Name (SSID): ITS Student

Password: *1T55tud3nt*

When connecting your devices to any ITS wi-fi or ITS network you are doing so in acceptance of the Institute’s terms & conditions and policies.

Printing, Copying & Scanning

Photocopying, scanning and printing facilities are available for all students at the Library (Block A). This printer can only be accessed through your official ITS Student Card. To be able to print/scan/copy you will need to purchase printing credit from the Accounts Department and load that credit onto your card at the IT Department. First-time users must also register their card with the IT Department.

Virtual Learning Environment

The ITS Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), based on the Moodle platform, is the virtual environment used by the Institute for e-learning. Your lecturers will upload class notes, handouts, assignments and other material to the VLE.

You can only access the VLE through your Office 365 portal (portal.office.com).

Registration to the VLE is an obligatory part of your duties as a student. You should set up your ITS VLE account as soon as you have set your Office 365 account.

A step-by-step guide for first- time users of the VLE was sent by the IT Department to your Inbox.

Computer Labs & Resource Room

On Campus in Malta and in Gozo you can make use of ICT facilities including computer labs and resource rooms.

Students have a responsibility to respect the property and exercise care when using these school facilities. All devices must be used in respect of the Acceptable Use of ICT Resources (and associated procedures and guidelines related to specific ICT-related hardware, software and applications). Personal documents and/or files are not to be left on these devices. The IT Department monitors these devices regular and any unauthorised files will be removed/deleted.

Reporting Problems & Issues

Students can contact the IT department via email to it@its.edu.mt. Most of the time, the IT department can and will help you remotely by connecting to your device. However, there might be instances when IT Personnel ask you to visit the IT Department. In such cases, an appointment will be generated for you. All students requesting services from the IT Department will be required to present their official ITS Student Card, as issued by the Department.

Meanwhile, all problems, damages and other issues with IT devices and other resources are to be reported to the IT Department via the same email (it@its.edu.mt) such that any arising situations can be resolved as quickly as possible.
