Throughout the month of October, the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) held different fundraising activities for breast cancer awareness month.
The ITS teaching restaurants took on a different atmosphere for Pink October, where patrons where provided with a different experience for this special cause. During this month, bar lecturers and students at the ITS teaching restaurants created special pink drinks, with a portion of the proceeds going towards this great cause. ITS pastry lecturers and students where busy baking cupcakes with a pink October theme to be sold in our restaurants, to ITS staff and students and to cater to orders from different organisations. All proceeds to go towards this great cause.
The ITS has had the honour to host the Prime minister’s wife, Mrs Michelle Muscat on Friday 20th October, where she was greeted by both students and staff members. She was then escorted to The Pembroke Suite, which is one of the ITS’ teaching restaurants, where she dined together with Ministry for Tourism Chief of Staff, ITS Board Members, CEO and directors. This provided the ITS students a unique opportunity to host these special guests.
ITS CEO, Mr Pierre Fenech stated “It was an honour hosting Mrs Muscat in one of our teaching restaurants and I would like to publicly thank and praise all lecturers and students who in some way have given their input for this important month. As part of the ITS strategy, it is not only important that skills are thought to our students, but also making sure that an ethical way of thought is passed on. With the Pink October initiative and others like it, students are thought to think of others, especially those in need.”
The Institute of Tourism Studies will also be present at the Hamrun Chocolate Festival 2017, where lecturer Mr Steve D’Anastasi will be creating a chocolate centre piece and ITS will also be selling Pink October cupcakes upon a donation, with proceeds going towards the Marigold Foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
