From Concept to Commitment
Throughout 2025, the Institute of Tourism Studies worked with Italian and international partners to develop Winter Games Express, an ambitious educational, cultural and hilanthropic initiative aligned with the Milano–Cortina Winter Olympic Games.

November 2025
Construction Begins
Construction of the 52-metre chocolate train officially begins in Malta and Italy, with ITS lecturer, Andrew Farrugia leading the production process, alongside students, academic and industry partners.

9 December 2025
Official Project Launch
The project was officially launched at the Institute of Tourism Studies during a dedicated press conference, introducing Winter Games Express to the public, partners and media.

12–13 December 2025
Fundraising in Support of Hospice Care
ITS students and staff led a fundraising initiative in Malta, supporting hospice care through the Winter Games Express project.
This activity formed part of the project’s wider philanthropic commitment, linking Hospice Malta with partner organisations in Italy.

January 2026
Final Preparations
In early January, ITS CEO visits Italy to review project progress, meet institutional partners and take part in media engagements ahead of the official launch in Milan.

Open Doors
Palazzo Lombardia opens to the public and schools for an educational open day, featuring workshops and activities connected to gastronomy, tourism and craftsmanship.

The Record Day
The official unveiling of the Winter Games Express and the 52-metre-long chocolate train, an attempt to achieve a Guinness World Record, with institutional participation and international visibility.
This milestone marks ITS’s contribution to the official cultural programme leading up to the Milano–Cortina Winter Olympic Games.
